Agnieszka Radwanska beat world number two Maria Sharapova 7-5 6-4 to win the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami. World number four Radwanska, 23, defeated the Russian at the Florida hardcourt championship to claim her ninth WTA title and her second of 2012. Sharapova has now lost all four finals she has featured in at the Miami tournament and all three she has played in this year.
Radwanska dominated on serve early in the second set, winning consecutive games at love and opening a 30-love lead in the seventh game. Sharapova then battled back with three straight points to gain the first break chance for either player in the second set. Radwanska's victory was her second of the year following a triumph in Dubai and her ninth WTA title, arguably her most valuable one.
